Established in Charlotte, NC, in 1992, BELLAS is unique in that it offers moms support throughout the duration of breastfeeding. We are also unique because we target low income, minority and teen-age mothers who often lack the resources to obtain lactation assistance, and whose babies can gain the most from breast milk.

One of the cornerstones of our success has been the experience and empathy of our counselors. We have a culturally diverse counseling staff including Lactation Consultants certified by the International Board of Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) and La Leche League Leaders with as much as 20 years of experience in breastfeeding instruction. All BELLAS counselors:

• Receive 40 hours of initial breastfeeding education and ongoing
  continuing education
  
• Have personal experience nursing their own children
  
• Attend local, regional and national conferences for the latest research
  related to breastfeeding
  
• Have access to research and the support of their mentors
• BELLAS also has many bilingual Peer Counselors who are fluent in Spanish
  enabling us to reach out to the growing Latino community.
