How BELLAS Breastfeeding helps mothers:
• 95% of BELLAS Postpartum clients initiate breastfeeding.
• 67% of these mothers who maintain peer support breastfeed for at least 6 weeks.
• 50% of BELLAS clients are now Hispanic (only 1 hospital in the entire Charlotte Metro region has lactation help in Spanish).
• 8 BELLAS counselors are bilingual and reach 800 Latino families each year.
• BELLAS hires the breastfeeding moms we’ve served to become peer counselors themselves.
• 6 peer counselors have gone on to become International Board Certified Lactation Consultants through the experience hours they gained as a BELLAS counselor.
BELLAS Breastfeeding offers the following services:
*Peer Counselors provide ongoing telephone support for the first six months of breastfeeding
* Home Visits
*Office Visits
*Basics of breastfeeding classes
*Celebrations for mothers who reach 6 weeks or more of breastfeeding
*Slings and pumps
*Nursing bras
*Boutique with gently used maternity, nursing, and baby clothes
*Bellas Bucks program
*Warmline that is checked daily
How You Can Help:
Our support and resources are offered in both English and Spanish, without charge to any mother who wishes to breastfeed and cannot afford other lactation assistance. These services are supported by grants and charitable donations from individuals and organizations who recognize the value of a breastfeeding relationship between a mother and her child.
Please take a moment and consider helping us to help mothers. Our goal is to raise $100,000 by December 2009. One hundred $1,000 donations will make that possible. You can decide today to be a part of that vital group of one hundred. Your tax deductible donation will impact the lives of families throughout this community for generations to come.

Peer Counselor Program-
